Rootooba participated in a two-day training on Gender Mainstreaming and Safeguarding Principles in Agri-food Systems, held in Nairobi from November 11–12, 2025.
The training was organized by GIZ under the Global Programme on Sustainable Agricultural Systems and Policies (AgSys), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) and other key stakeholders including farmer organizations, private sector actors, research institutions, and civil society networks.
The initiative aimed to strengthen institutional capacities for integrating gender equality and safeguarding principles into agrifood programming. It also provided practical tools and frameworks for advancing gender-transformative change at both organizational and implementation levels.
Day one focused on foundational concepts such as the relevance of gender in agrifood systems, mapping gender roles, and understanding gender as a social relation. Participants explored gender analysis tools, drivers of inequality, and shared experiences from across sectors.
Day two emphasized transformative approaches including the Gender Action Learning System (GALS), male engagement strategies, and the role of gender equality champions. Sessions addressed legal frameworks, levels of participation, and safeguarding against sexual harassment in agrifood institutions.
The training concluded with a focus on Gender Responsive Monitoring (GRM), highlighting best practices and tools for tracking progress.
Participation in the training aligned with the organization’s commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable investment. It also reinforced institutional understanding and the organization’s role in promoting equitable, resilient, and accountable agri-food systems across Kenya and Africa.
